10 proven tweaks that doubled conversion rates for small business sites

We looked at over 1,000 Growthzi sites and compared the ones that generate enquiries and bookings against the ones that get traffic but no action. These are the ten differences that consistently predict conversion.

1. Put your phone number in the header

This sounds obvious, but 60% of small business sites bury contact information at the bottom of the page. A clickable phone number in the top-right corner of the navigation converts mobile visitors immediately. They tap to call without hunting.

2. Write your hero headline for the customer, not yourself

"Welcome to XYZ Salon" converts far worse than "Book a haircut today. Walk-ins welcome in Pune." Lead with what the customer gets, not who you are.

3. Add a single, obvious CTA above the fold

Visitors make a decision within 3 seconds. There should be one dominant button above the fold. "Book Now", "Get a Free Quote", "Call Us". Not three competing options. More choices = less action.

4. Show real reviews prominently

Sites that display Google reviews or testimonials with real names convert 28% better on average. Visitors trust other customers far more than they trust you. Import your reviews and show them early.

5. Add a WhatsApp button

For Indian customers especially, WhatsApp is the preferred way to reach a business. A floating WhatsApp button increases contact rate by 35-40% on mobile, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

6. List your services with prices (or price ranges)

Visitors who can't find prices often leave to find a competitor who shows them. Even a price range ("starting from ₹500") sets expectations and filters in qualified leads who are ready to pay.

7. Use a map embed on your contact page

Google Maps embeds increase trust for location-based businesses. Visitors can see exactly where you are before they commit to visiting. This is especially important for salons, clinics, restaurants, and gyms.

8. Compress your images

Every second of load time costs you conversions. Uncompressed images are the most common cause of slow small business websites. Keep hero images under 200KB. Growthzi does this automatically. If you're using a different platform, run every image through Squoosh or TinyPNG.

9. Add a FAQ section

FAQs handle objections before visitors email or call to ask them. Common questions. Pricing, availability, location, how to book. Answered on-page reduce friction and move visitors to decision faster.

10. Follow up with a lead capture form

Not every visitor is ready to call. A simple "Leave your number and we'll call you back" form with just a name and phone field catches visitors who are interested but not committed. This single change doubled enquiry volume for several Growthzi users.

Conversions aren't a mystery. They come from removing friction, building trust, and making the next step obvious at every point on the page.
