In this guide

1. On-page essentials
2. Technical SEO
3. Local SEO (critical for most small businesses)
4. Content SEO

SEO doesn't have to be complicated. The basics done well outperform most advanced tactics for local and small businesses. Here's what actually matters in 2025.

## On-page essentials

- **Title tag**. Every page needs a unique title under 60 characters that includes your main keyword. "Dental Clinic in Pune | Dr Meera Joshi" is good. "Home" is not.
- **Meta description**. 150-160 characters that describe the page and include a call to action. This appears in search results and affects click-through rate.
- **H1 tag**. One H1 per page, containing your primary keyword. "Best Café in Koramangala, Bengaluru" is an H1. "Welcome!" is not.
- **Image alt text**. Every image needs an alt attribute describing what's in the image. "woman-getting-a-haircut-salon-mumbai.jpg" helps. "IMG\_3947.jpg" does not.

## Technical SEO

- **HTTPS**. Your site must be served over HTTPS. Any site without SSL is penalised and browsers flag it as insecure.
- **Sitemap**. A sitemap.xml file tells Google every page on your site. Submit it via Google Search Console.
- **Robots.txt**. Ensure you're not accidentally blocking Google from crawling your pages.
- **Canonical tags**. Prevent duplicate content issues by specifying the canonical version of each URL.
- **Core Web Vitals**. LCP under 2.5s, FID under 100ms, CLS under 0.1. Test at pagespeed.web.dev.

## Local SEO (critical for most small businesses)

- **Google Business Profile**. Claimed, verified, and fully filled out with hours, photos, and category.
- **NAP consistency**. Your Name, Address, Phone number must be identical across your website, Google Business Profile, and any directory listings.
- **Local schema markup**. JSON-LD LocalBusiness schema tells Google your exact location, opening hours, and services.

## Content SEO

- **One keyword focus per page**. Each page should target one primary keyword cluster, not everything at once.
- **Answer questions your customers ask**. FAQ sections that mirror real search queries rank for featured snippets.
- **Enough content depth**. Thin pages (under 300 words) rarely rank. Each service page should have at least 500 words of relevant, specific content.

Growthzi handles the technical side. Schema, sitemaps, meta tags, performance. Automatically. Your job is the content: write for your customer first, and Google will follow.
